Tech Finishes Regular Season Undefeated at 14 - 0

Georgia Tech renewed their rivalry with the the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. Both teams came into the game undefeated in region play with the winner of the contest taking home the SELC Southwest region championship.  Tech had won the previous five meetings with the Bulldogs, but 2018 marked the closest game over that stretch and the Bulldogs came in desperate to break that streak.

The game started a little slowly as both teams took a little time to feel each other out.  The Jackets opened the scoring when Evan Juncal scored a man up goal.  The first half was a battle of contrasting styles as the Bulldogs tried to slow the tempo and the Jackets wanted to play fast as they have done all season.  Georgia had long stretches of possession, but the Tech defense was strong and continually turned the Bulldogs away.  Tech was able to attack Georgia with quick ball movement and built a 5-1 lead after the first quarter.  The second quarter was more of the same as Tech lead 9-4 at halftime.  Much like a week ago against Michigan State, the Jackets would take control of the game in the third quarter.  The Jackets were able to control the tempo of the game as strong defensive play, tough groundballs, and relentless face-off play  all contributed to run outs for the Jackets and Tech was all too happy to score in transition.  When the game did settle into longer possessions, the Jacket defense shut the door and the offense used quick ball movement to get great looks.

Tech continued to run away from the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter resulting in a final score of 21-5.  The win marked the sixth straight for the Jackets over the Bulldogs.  Tech will play next in the SELC tournament in Johns Creek, GA on Friday April 26 against the loser of next week's Clemson-South Carolina game.
