Jackets Remain Undefeated Improve to 8-0

Georgia Tech completed a weekend sweep with two come from behind victories.  On Friday the Jackets took on an always tough Florida State squad.  After getting out to a 3-0 lead early, Tech let Florida State get out in front 5-3 in the first half.  From that point Tech's defense clamped down on the Seminoles.  The Jackets closed the game on a 9-1 run to win 14-6.  Tech's defense was rock solid during the run with well timed slides and excellent physical approaches on FSU's shooters.  Tech's offense struck quickly off of transition and in early offense.  Tech's starting attack of Conrad McEvoy, Tim Peterson, and Matt Krecicki combined  for 15 points in the game.  Devin Raun added two goals from the midfield.

On Sunday as the opening act in the Atlanta College Lacrosse Classic, the Yellow Jackets took on the UConn Huskies in a 10:00 AM start.  Tech got on the board first when Jack Maginnes fed Conrad McEvoy on the crease.  The Huskies responded and the game was a back and forth affair in the first half with the Huskies getting the better of the Jackets for the most part.  Tech was able to close within two goals at halftime when Zach Schenken scored unassisted on a backside dodge on the wing.  Trailing 7-5 at half after playing well below their best, the Jackets felt good about their chances in the second half.  Tech got the opening goal of the second half when Griffin Goggans took advantage of an over eager approach from a UConn  defender and delivered a left handed shot into the upper corner.  The Huskies answered shortly thereafter, but Tech went away from their typically free flowing motion offense to a heavy isolation game the rest of third quarter and was able to take advantage of several good match ups.  Tech closed the third quarter up 9-8.  The fourth quarter started out as much of the same with Tech building a 12-9 lead.  The Huskies would not relent however and managed to score two quick goals to get within one at 12-11.  The Huskies had the ball and called timeout with around a minute remaining and Tech's defense needed to stand tall once more.  As the Huskies tried to get the ball behind, goalkeeper Gino Pagliaro read the pass and left the comfort of his crease to intercept the pass.  Tech was able to get the ball cleared and seal the victory.  Tech was paced by three points each from Jack Maginnes and Tim Peterson.

The Jackets now sit at 8-0 on the season and will play Buffalo on March 16 at home at 2:00 pm.
