Jackets Stumble against Longhorns

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets finished their west coast trip with a neutral site game against the Texas Longhorns.  The game started with both teams finding their footing as neither team could break through.  The Longhorns drew first blood in transition.  Brooks Baro knotted the game on the Jackets' next possession when he swept to the middle before beating the Texas goaltender.  DJ Louis scored the first of his two goals just over a minute later.  Late in the quarter the Longhorns tied the game but Ben Skopicki won the ensuing faceoff and scored a fast break goal of his own six seconds later to give the Jackets a 3-2 lead at the half.

The second quarter got started when DJ Louis scored again to give the Jackets a 4-2 lead.  The rest of the quarter was all Longhorns as the Jackets struggled to get possessions and Texas took advantage of their extra opportunities tying the game before taking a 6-4 halftime lead.

The Jackets looked primed for a comeback when Asher Wagnon fed Andrew Belli to cut the lead to one early in the third quarter.  Unfortunately for the Jackets, the Longhorns would score the next two goals.  Ian Balser scored the first of his two goals shortly thereafter but it would not be enough as the Longhorns held on for the 14-8 win.

The Jackets will now face the Arizona State Sun Devils at home on Friday before a weekend off for Spring Break
