Jackets in SELC Final with Dramatic Overtime Win

Down 8-6 with 6:35 remaining in the 4th Quarter against upset minded Florida State the Jackets scored two to force overtime and then secured the victory with a dramatic goal by Conrad McEvoy off off great ball ball movement and relentless pressure on the Seminole goalkeeper with 3 minutes remaining in the first Overtime period.

Georgia Tech was meeting Florida State in a rematch of a game from February that Tech won. The Seminoles were coming of a first round upset of Virginia Tech in Overtime on Friday.  The game was sloppy and Tech struggled to get their offensive flow as Tech's defense stepped up and kept the Seminoles at bay for long stretches throughout the game.  Tech trailing by 2 goals in the 4th Quarter Freshman Devin Raun found the back of the net to get within one and then Conrad McEvoy scored a diving goal with a flag down to tie the game with 1:15 left.  FSU got the final possession, but the stingy Tech defense locked down once more and the game went to overtime locked at eight. 

Tech won the opening faceoff and settled into a possession.  Tech managed a three shot flurry in a few seconds with the first hitting the crossbar and the goalie saving the second.  Tim Peterson corralled the rebound behind the goal and threw the ball to McEvoy behind the goal.  McEvoy pushed the right side of the cage and shot a diving backhanded shot that appeared to have gotten lodged in the outside of the net.  After a moment of confusion, the officials made that the call that the ball was in fact inside the net and the shot had scored and ended the game.  With the win the Jackets punched their ticket to SELC championship game on Sunday against South Carolina.  This will be Tech's fourth appearance in the final in five years.
