Jackets defeat Gators to Claim 2024 SELC Championship!

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets faced off against the Florida Gators on Sunday with automatic bid to the MCLA National Tournament on the line in the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference Championship Game.

The Gators got on the board first and built a 3-0 lead before the Jackets were able to answer.  The Jackets scored twice but the Gators answered to go back up by two.  The Jackets rallied and tied the game at four after the first quarter.  The second quarter was back and forth with both teams scoring early transition goals before trading settled possessions.  The Jackets got the last lead of the half as Pierce Quarles fed Joseph Rose to put the Jackets ahead 8-7 at half.

The Jacket defense put the clamps on in the second half and the Tech offense continued sharing the ball and getting to dangerous areas.  Ben Skopicki was a dominating force at the faceoff dot giving the Jackets multiple possesions.  The Jackets gradually built a 12-8 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Jackets both struck in transition and managed possessions to score late in the shot clock.  The Jackets were able to cruise to a 16-10 win.

The win sealed consecutive SELC championships for Georgia Tech and also broke a tie with rival Georgia as well as Virginia Tech for the most SELC titles.  The Jackets have earned an automatic bid to the National
Tournament in Round Rock, TX and wait to find out their first round opponent!
