Jackets down Longhorns, Advance to MCLA Quarterfinals

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defeated the hometown Texas Longhorns 17-9 in the first round of the MCLA National Tournament by New Balance.  The Jackets started slow offensively but earned a 1-0 lead after the first quarter.  
 
The Jackets began to find their footing in the second quarter.  Tech outscored Texas 4-1 in the quarter to take a 5-1 lead into the half.
 
The third quarter was an offensive explosion from both teams.  The Longhorns scored the first two goals of the quarter to pull within two as the Jackets came out flat to start the second half.  The Jackets answered with three goals in 25 seconds to stretch the lead.  Texas scored the next two goals.   The Jackets scored six of the next seven goals to take a 15-7 lead into the fourth quarter.  The ten goal quarter was the most the Jackets had scored in a quarter all season.
 
The fourth quarter was a slower affair as the Jackets were able to hold possession and manage the clock to come out with the 17-9 win.
 
The Jackets will face Concordia Irvine in the Quarterfinals this evening at 5:15 CDT. The 7th seeded Concordia outlasted Northeastern 12-11 to earn their place in the Quarterfinal. The Jackets faced the Golden Eagles in the opening round of the 2022 MCLA Tournament, a 12-11 Jackets win that starting the Jackets run to the programs first finals appearance.
