Jackets Take Down Cougars

Jackets Take Down Cougars

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets traveled to Provo, Utah to take on the Brigham Young University Cougars.  The Jackets we're looking to get back on track after a tough weekend the week before.  The first quarter was a slow affair as neither team seemed very comfortable.  Brooks Baro opened the scoring on a dodge to the middle of the field.  Asher Wagnon added a goal later in the quarter.  The Cougars got on the board with seconds left in the first quarter and then tied the game in the opening seconds of the second quarter.

The slow pace continues for the next few minutes as Devin Raun scored unassisted.   Matthew Mathias scored off a feed from Joseph Rose.   The defense stayed strong and held off the cougars behind Hudson Higgins, Kevin Lewis,  Connor Koelsch, and Taylor Teasley.  The defensive midfield turned away the BYU dodgers behind strong efforts from Ian Balser, George Corbin, Carrington Kelsey, and Will Cero.  Freshman goalie Peter Zagrobelny was able to corral the shots BYU mustered finishing with 15 saves.  The Jackets broke the game open late in the second quarter scoring four goals in the last five minutes to take an 8-2 half time leave.

Sam Eck scored a goal off the opening faceoff of the second half.  BYU answered shortly after.  Devin Raun scored his second goal of the day a few minutes later.  Matt Seifert found Nick Witten for a beautiful multiple pass goal.  The third quarter scoring for the Jackets closed out with a fast break goal when Hudson Higgins fed Pierce Quarles.  BYU added a goal late in the third quarter.  The Jackets went into the final quarter leading 12-4.  In the fourth quarter the Jackets seems to lose their focus and gave up three more goals to the Cougars while only adding two of their own giving Tech the 14-7 win.
