Jackets go 2-0 in Utah! Prep for SELC Tournament

The Georgia Tech men's lacrosse team had a successful weekend on the road, defeating two tough opponents to improve their record to 11-3.

On Friday night, the Jackets faced off against #12 BYU in a game with huge national implications. Despite the pressure, the Jackets played with confidence and dominated from the start. They held a commanding 12-4 lead after three quarters and ultimately won 14-7. Freshman goalie Peter Zagrobelny was exceptional, making 15 saves. The GT offense was also well balanced with eight different goal scorers.

On Saturday, the Jackets faced their second tough opponent of the weekend, #4 Utah Valley. Once again, the Jackets came out strong and controlled the game from the start. They led 11-2 at halftime and cruised to an 18-6 victory. The Jackets played with intensity, and the defense held Utah Valley to its lowest goal total of the season.  Zagrobelny had another fantastic day turning away 18 Wolverine shots.  Six different Jackets scored goals as Tech was able to string together several runs throughout the game including scoring three goals in just over a minute early in the fourth quarter.  Pierce Quarles lead the way with four goals and three assists and Brooks Baro added five goals.

Overall, it was a great bounce back weekend for the Jackets as they demonstrated their ability to dominate against tough opponents. The Jackets will now turn their attention to the SELC playoffs. The Jackets will face off against Florida State at 3:30 on Saturday April 15th. FSU opened the season on a 10 game win streak, but has been on a 4-game losing streak to end their regular season. These games however include tight losses against #1 Florida and the team from Athens. The winner of this game Saturday will punch their tickets to Jacksonville the following weekend.
