Jackets Overcome Slow Start to Tame Tigers

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets faced the Clemson Tigers on Sunday at a sun splashed Roe Stamps Field.  The game was sloppy to start with both neither team scoring for several minutes before Sam Eck scored an extra man goal on a feed from Pierce Quarles.  The Tigers responded scoring the tying goal less than a minute later.  Devin Raun put the Jackets in front again but Clemson responded quickly again.   Clemson then took control of the game leading 4-3 after the first quarter and leading 8-4 at one point before Tech cut the lead to 8-6 at halftime.

In the second half the Jackets began to shake off their malaise.  Raun scored two more goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter to tie the game.  Pierce Quarles added a goal to give the Jackets their first lead since 2-1.  The Jackets scored three more goals in the third to take a 12-9 lead going into the fourth quarter.  The Jackets built a lead of 17-10 before the Tigers scored the final three goals of the game.  The Jackets left with a 17-13 win.

The Jackets will next face the top ranked Virginia Tech Hokies at home on Friday March 3.
